La Manga, the first all-female percussive collective in New York focused on the cumbia tradition, brings together the sounds of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Built around the rhythms of tambor alegre, tambora, llamador, and maracas, the group’s MANGAZOS are ancestral and of the moment, turning the stage into a site of celebration, exchange, and movement.
La Manga has been an opening act for the multi-GRAMMY-winning artist Arturo O’farrill, The Klezmatics, Vieux Farka Touré, Flor de Toloache, Yasser Tejeda, Rumbo Tumba, Samir Langus, Las Mariquitas, Ramon Chicharron, and has collaborated with international Chilean artist Pascuala Ilabaca.
La Manga was featured in The New York Times and has performed at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Sony Hall, Public Records, Joe’s Pub, Nublu, MoMA PS1, Museum of the City of New York, DROM, Museum at Eldridge Street, Queens Theater, Bronx Music Heritage Center, Bar Lunático, Brooklyn Bowl, City Winery, and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
